Ahooja​​
General Cardiology with a Focus on Advanced Cardiac Imaging

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Ahooja is a general cardiologist in the Greater Toronto Area with board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac CT. She completed her cardiology fellowship as Chief Fellow at Wayne State University and held leadership roles in Michigan, including Director of Echocardiography and TEE labs at Genesys Hospital. She also served as an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan and has received multiple awards for clinical excellence. At One Heart Care, her practice includes comprehensive cardiac care with a niche in advanced imaging.

She is actively involved in cardiovascular research and has published in leading journals, including the Journal of the American Heart Association and the Canadian Journal of Diabetes. Dr. Ahooja serves on national advisory boards and committees and frequently lectures at medical and community events. She also integrates holistic approaches into her practice, with training in Ayurvedic medicine and a role on the advisory board of the Ayurvedic Association of Canada.

Dr. Mia Bertic
General Cardiology and Cardiac Critical Care

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Mia Bertic is a cardiologist and cardiac intensivist at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, Ontario, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She completed medical school at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Western University. She then pursued cardiology training at the University of British Columbia and completed a fellowship in Cardiac Critical Care at the University of Toronto, where she received the John Ross Fellow Leadership Award. Dr. Bertic also serves as a Director on the One Heart Care Board of Directors.

Her clinical interests include cardiac arrest management and population-based initiatives to improve outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. She has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Bertic’s philosophy of care centres on delivering comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based treatment, with a focus not only on managing disease but also on enhancing patients’ quality of life.

Dr. Barry Burstein
General Cardiology and Cardiac Critical Care

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Barry Burstein is a cardiologist with subspecialty training in cardiac critical care and advanced experience in heart failure and echocardiography. He completed his MD at Jefferson Medical College in 2012, followed by Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at McGill University. He then pursued a Critical Care Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, graduating in 2020. At One Heart Care, Dr. Burstein provides general cardiology services with a particular focus on cardiac intensive care and Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS).

Dr. Burstein serves as Cardiac Diagnostics Lead at Trillium Health Partners and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is a board member of the Canadian Cardiovascular Critical Care Society (CANCARE), has delivered presentations at international conferences, and authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications. His care philosophy centres on evidence-based, patient-focused decision making. Fluent in French, he also enjoys teaching, quality improvement, cycling, tennis, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Soohyun Alice Chang
Structural Imaging & General Cardiologist

About Your Cardiologist:

Dr. Alice Soohyun Chang is a general cardiologist and advanced echocardiographer with expertise in structural heart imaging and procedural guidance. She completed her medical degree, internal medicine residency, and cardiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia, where she served as Chief Cardiology Resident, followed by a fellowship in Structural Echocardiography at Baylor Scott & White Health in Texas, gaining advanced training in TEE and cardiac CT.

Since 2022, Dr. Chang has practised at both One Heart Care and Trillium Health Partners, where she also leads echocardiography education and quality improvement. She is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Toronto and has presented nationally and internationally, including live TEE cases, with publications on cardiac imaging, mitral valve disease, and cardiac conditions in pregnancy.

Her clinical focus spans general cardiology with a specialty in valvular and structural heart disease. Known for her patient-centred approach, Dr. Chang integrates precision, innovation, and compassion in her care. Outside of work, she enjoys baking, yoga, visiting local farms, and is fluent in Korean.

Dr. Andrea Daly
General Cardiologist

About Your Cardiologist:

Dr. Andrea Daly is a cardiologist and cardiac intensivist at Trillium Health Partners with advanced training in critical care. She completed her medical degree at Western University, followed by residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Toronto. She further specialized in Critical Care through fellowship training at Stanford University. Dr. Daly also holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Dundee and a Certificate in Global Health from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Daly serves as Education Lead at Trillium Health Partners and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Daly’s clinical practice focuses on acute cardiac care and intensive care medicine with an interest in cardiogenic shock and CICU best practices. She combines academic insight with compassionate, evidence-based care. With a strong foundation in medical education and leadership, she is dedicated to both clinical excellence and shaping the next generation of physicians. Fluent in French, she also enjoys tennis, camping, and spending time with her family.

Dr. David Dorian
Critical Care and Sports Cardiologist

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. David Dorian is a critical care and sports cardiologist with specialized training in managing athletes with cardiac conditions. He completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto in 2017 and continued his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, earning his FRCPC in Internal Medicine in 2021 and in Cardiology in 2023. During his final year, he served as chief cardiology resident. Dr. Dorian pursued further training in cardiac critical care at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and earned an MSc in Sports Cardiology at St. George’s University London. His clinical interests include cardiac critical care, cardiogenic shock, athletic heart care, and exercise-based prevention.

Dr. Dorian’s approach to care is rooted in evidence-based medicine and personalized treatment. He is committed to helping patients achieve optimal heart health through collaboration and education. Outside of his clinical work, he enjoys cycling, running, and cooking, which complement his belief in the importance of lifestyle in heart health.

Dr. Andrew Elagizi
General Cardiologist / Cardiac Imaging Specialist

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Andrew Elagizi is a general cardiologist with advanced expertise in cardiac imaging and preventive cardiology. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in 2015, and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans from 2015 to 2021. From 2021 to 2023, he served as faculty for the cardiology fellowship training program. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac CT. At One Heart Care, he delivers comprehensive heart care with a focus on prevention and non-invasive imaging.

Dr. Elagizi takes a patient-centred approach, working collaboratively to support long-term cardiovascular wellness. He is passionate about medical research in prevention and imaging and has authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal and textbook publications. He was honoured as Teacher of the Year in 2022 by the Ochsner Cardiology Fellowship Program and has contributed to the American College of Cardiology’s Echocardiography Self-Assessment Program. He finds the most rewarding part of his work is partnering with patients to help them become healthier and happier.

Dr. Sumeet Gandhi
Valvular Heart Disease, Cardiac Imaging & General Cardiology

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Sumeet Gandhi is a cardiologist with a focus on valvular heart disease, cardiac imaging, and general cardiology. He earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2011 and completed postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology through the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Dr. Gandhi is a valued member of the cardiac care team at Trillium Health Partners, where he serves as Program Lead for Echocardiography and is part of the Structural Heart Team as an Advanced/Interventional Echocardiographer.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gandhi is actively engaged in cardiovascular research, with several peer-reviewed publications to his name. He is also passionate about both patient and physician education, aiming to bridge knowledge with care through clear communication and ongoing learning. His practice reflects a commitment to excellence, innovation, and compassionate care.

Dr. Anil Gupta
General Cardiology and Cardiac Innovation

About Your Cardiologist:

Dr. Anil Gupta is a general cardiologist with expertise in heart failure, prevention, and clinical leadership. He is a Staff Cardiologist at Trillium Health Partners and a Lecturer at the University of Toronto, where he teaches at the Mississauga Academy of Medicine. He is also affiliated with the Institute for Better Health and has held several leadership roles, including Medical Director of the Coronary Care Unit and Innovation Lead for the Cardiac Program.

Nationally recognized for his work in cardiovascular education, Dr. Gupta chairs the Continuing Professional Development Program for the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and sits on its Board of Directors. He contributes to the Canadian Heart Failure Society and has helped shape national guidelines on hypertension, driving and flying fitness, peripheral artery disease, and antiplatelet therapy. He also co-founded Trillium’s Smoking Cessation Program.

Dr. Gupta serves as a cardiology consultant to Basketball Canada and Tennis Canada. With over 20 years of experience, he is known for his collaborative, patient-centred care and his commitment to improving heart health through innovation, education, and compassionate practice.

Dr. Vikram Gurtu
General Cardiology with a Focus on Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Vikram Gurtu is a general cardiologist with advanced training in echocardiography, heart failure, and integrative physiology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Calgary and completed internal medicine and cardiology residencies at the University of Alberta and Mazankowski Heart Institute, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Gurtu went on to complete a fellowship in Advanced Echocardiography and the Clinician Investigator Program, followed by additional training in integrative physiology at Mount Sinai Hospital and in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation at Toronto General Hospital. He has authored multiple publications in high-impact journals and has a strong academic background in pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure.

At One Heart Care, Dr. Gurtu focuses on general cardiology while maintaining a special interest in heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. He also serves as a staff cardiologist and the Medical Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto. Dr. Gurtu is committed to delivering thoughtful, evidence-based care, integrating his clinical expertise and research background to provide the highest quality of care for his patients.

Dr. Emily Lai​
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Cardiac Imaging & General Cardiology

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Emily Lai is a cardiologist with subspecialty training in echocardiography and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  She practices at Trillium Health Partners and One Heart Care, and is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Lai holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and earned her MD from the University of Toronto, graduating with the prestigious Cody Silver Medal.  She completed her Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at the University of Toronto, followed by Fellowship training in level 3 echocardiography and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the University Health Network.

As a founding member of One Heart Care, Dr. Lai leads a general cardiology clinic while maintaining a special focus on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). She plays a key role in the Ontario HCM Integrated Care Network and serves as Regional HCM Centre Lead.  Dr. Lai has authored several peer-reviewed publications and remains actively involved in research and medical education. She was recently awarded a BMS QIIC grant to support initiatives aimed at improving care for HCM patients at One Heart Care.  Committed to delivering excellence in patient care, Dr. Lai emphasizes an evidence-based, collaborative, and individualized approach to improving health outcomes. She is fluent in French and enjoys traveling, skiing, playing tennis, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Manish Maingi
General Cardiology

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Manish Maingi is a general cardiologist with over 25 years of clinical experience in comprehensive cardiac care. He completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto in 1991, followed by residency training at both the University of Toronto (1991–1994) and the University of Western Ontario (1994–1996). He began his cardiology practice in 1996 and has since served in several leadership roles, including Chief of Cardiology at Credit Valley Hospital (2003–2013) and Trillium Health Partners (2013–2018). At One Heart Care, Dr. Maingi is a founding member and has served as President and Medical Director. His clinical interests span all aspects of cardiology. He has published research in congestive heart failure and has been recognized with multiple awards, including Physician of the Year at Credit Valley Hospital (2004, 2010), the Hazel McCallion Quality Award (2014), and the Physician Practice Award at Trillium Health Partners (2018).

Dr. Maingi’s approach to care is patient-focused and comprehensive, with a strong emphasis on building long-term relationships with patients and their families. Passionate about education, Dr. Maingi also contributes to the development of future physicians through ongoing teaching of medical trainees at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Kirandeep Nagi
Adult General Cardiology

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Kirandeep Nagi is a general cardiologist with over two decades of experience in adult cardiac care. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Western University in 1992, followed by Internal Medicine (FRCPC 1996) and Cardiology (FRCPC 1997) certifications. Dr. Nagi pursued fellowships in heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the Ottawa Heart Institute (1997–1998), and in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and diagnostic cardiac catheterization at Western University (1998–1999). He has been practising as a cardiologist since January 2000. At One Heart Care, he provides consultations, follow-up care, and advanced testing, including echocardiography and myocardial perfusion stress testing. His clinical interests include coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and heart failure.

Dr. Nagi’s philosophy of care is centred around collaboration, working together with patients to achieve the best possible health outcomes. Outside of his clinical practice, he enjoys tennis, cycling, and spending quality time with his family, including his two dogs. He lives by the personal philosophy: “Everything in moderation.”

Dr. Janarthan Nikhil​​

Dr. Janarthan Nikhil is a general cardiologist with a special interest in advanced echocardiography. He obtained his entire medical and specialty training at the University of Toronto.  He has been practicing at Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Partners since 2008, where he has held longstanding leadership positions in the cardiac program. He is a founding member of One Heart Care.

Dr. Nikhil strives to provide attentive, collaborative and reassuring care for his patients. He appreciates the relationships and trust that have been built with his patients and their families over many years. 

Outside of his practice, Dr. Nikhil enjoys his time with his family and his young twins, as well as a variety of hobbies such as piano, chess and gardening.

Dr. Dylan Stanger
General Cardiology with a Focus on Advanced and Interventional Echocardiography

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Dylan Stanger is a general cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in advanced and interventional echocardiography. He completed his medical degree, Internal Medicine residency, and Adult Cardiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Echocardiography at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. He has been in clinical practice since 2021 and currently serves as the Echocardiography Physician Lead at One Heart Care.

Dr. Stanger’s clinical focus includes structural heart disease, 3D echocardiography, and imaging guidance for transcatheter procedures. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in the areas of cardiac arrest, point-of-care ultrasound, and multimodality imaging. In addition to his clinical role, he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, where he contributes to both research and medical education.

Dr. Garry Thomas​
General Cardiology

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Garry Thomas is a general cardiologist with subspecialized training in electrophysiology. He received his Master of Science degree followed by medical school and adult cardiology training at the University of Toronto. He completed an electrophysiology fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with an emphasis on the clinical management of arrhythmias and cardiac implantable electronic devices. He has successfully completed the National Board of Echocardiography exam and is a board-certified member of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Thomas is currently a staff cardiologist at Unity Health Toronto (St.Joseph’s Health Centre) where he leads the arrhythmia and pacemaker implantation program. He is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto and has a commitment to education, innovation, and quality improvement.

Dr. Lucas A. Burke
Structural and Interventional Cardiology

Dr. Lucas A. Burke is a structural and interventional cardiologist with specialized training in complex catheter-based cardiac procedures. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Florida, followed by a General Cardiology Fellowship at Loyola University Chicago. He then completed advanced training in Interventional Cardiology at St. Michael’s Hospital through the University of Toronto. Dr. Burke currently practises at Trillium Health Partners and brings his expertise to One Heart Care in both interventional and general cardiology.

His clinical interests include a wide range of minimally invasive procedures such as percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty), MitraClip and TriClip procedures, left atrial appendage occlusion, mitral valve-in-valve implantation, balloon mitral valvuloplasty, and both PFO and ASD closure. Dr. Burke is committed to advancing patient outcomes through precision, innovation, and compassionate care.

Dr. Geoff Puley​
Interventional Cardiologist

About Your Cardiologist:
Dr. Geoff Puley is a General and Interventional Cardiologist specializing in Coronary and Structural Heart Interventions.  He completed Medical School, Internal Medicine and Cardiology residencies at the University of Toronto where he also served as Chief Cardiology Resident at Toronto General and St Michael’s Hospitals.  He subsequently did Fellowships in Interventional Cardiology at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia.  He has been practicing General and Interventional Cardiology at Trillium Health Partners since 2005 and has served as Physician Lead of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and was a Founding Member of One Heart Care where he continues to sit as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Puley’s clinical expertise are in the arenas of Percutaneous Coronary Interventions for Stable and Acute Coronary Artery Disease as well as Structural Heart Interventions for Valvular and Congenital Heart Disease.

Dr. Willy Weng

Dr. Willy Weng is an invasive electrophysiologist with advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders. He completed his postgraduate Adult Cardiology training at the University of Ottawa, followed by a specialized fellowship in Adult Electrophysiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where he developed expertise in advanced ablation and device implantation techniques.

Dr. Weng began his clinical practice at Horizon Health Network in Saint John, New Brunswick, and currently serves as an Invasive Electrophysiologist at Trillium Health Partners. His patient-centred approach combines evidence-based practice with the latest procedural innovations to optimize outcomes.

Dr. Hanna Lee
Advanced Heart Failure Specialist & Advanced Echocardiographer

Dr. Hanna Lee is an advanced heart failure specialist and echocardiographer with comprehensive training through the University of Toronto, where she completed her undergraduate degree, medical school, and residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She further pursued fellowships in both Advanced Heart Failure and Advanced Echocardiography at Toronto General Hospital. At One Heart Care, she provides general cardiology care with a subspecialty focus on managing complex heart failure cases.

Dr. Lee also serves as the Physician Lead for Advanced Heart Failure at Trillium Health Partners. Recognized by Post City Magazines as one of “Toronto’s Top Doctors” in Cardiology for 2024 and 2025, she is known for her clinical leadership and dedication to patient-centred care. Her approach is rooted in compassion, evidence-based practice, with a commitment to improving long-term outcomes for patients living with heart failure.

Dr. Tahseen Rahman

Dr. Tahseen Rahman is a cardiologist with advanced expertise in heart failure and echocardiography, including transesophageal echocardiograms. He completed his medical degree and internal medicine training at McMaster University (MD 2013, FRCPC 2016), followed by cardiology residency at Western University (FRCPC 2019), and subspecialty fellowship training at Toronto General Hospital in 2021. She completed her Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at the University of Toronto, followed by an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation Fellowship at the University Health Network and an Echocardiography Fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Wang has been part of the One Heart Care team since 2023 and also practices at Trillium Health Partners. She previously spent over four years providing cardiac care at Cardiology Associates, Jubilee Square. Her clinical interests include complex heart failure, transplant cardiology, and advanced cardiac imaging. Dr. Wang is dedicated to delivering compassionate, personalized care and integrating the latest advancements to enhance patient outcomes.

Dr. Hardik Bhatt, MD is an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellow at the University of Toronto. He previously completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the University at Buffalo. Dr. Bhatt earned his medical degree from St. George’s University in 2018 and brings over seven years of clinical experience focused on comprehensive cardiovascular care.

Dr. Bhatt is passionate about delivering personalized, evidence-based care to patients with complex heart conditions. He is dedicated to innovation in cardiology and finds purpose in making a meaningful impact on his patients’ lives.
